Despite the festive boost, most carmakers have reported decline in the October sales. The market leader Maruti Suzuki, however, registered a 9.5 per cent growth at 135,128 units. Although, it registered a marginal growth as compared with its previous month’s double-digit growth of last year.

Earlier, ETAuto have reported that the automobile dealers too have witnessed a cold response during the festive season.

In the top 10 cars sold in October 2017, Renault Kwid and Tata Tiago make a comeback in the top selling list. Both the cars are the best-selling passenger vehiclesof their companies, both contributing over 40 per cent of the total sales.

Tata Motors sold 6,990 units of the Tiago in October 2017, while Renault sold 8,136 units of the Kwid in the same month.

“The Tiago kick-started the company’s transformation journey and has been a game-changer for the PV business. With the Tiago, we showcased tremendous potential and continued our legacy of offering aspirational features. Additionally, the introduction of the AMT variants helped us further expand our customer base and ensured better customer accessibility to technology,” said the company’s spokesperson.

“Within a short span, the AMT variants have become immensely popular contributing 10-30 per cent of our sales. We are delighted that the Tiago has once again been in the top 10 selling cars of the month.”

On the other hand, Renault Kwid slipped one position down to the ninth position. As the Kwid saw a decline in the sale of 17 per cent. However, October seems to be a better month for Kwid when compared to other months in FY17-18.

At the same time, Maruti Suzuki continues to dominate the list with its six models — Dzire, Alto, Baleno, WagonR, Celerio and Swift. However, the Celerio outsold the compact hatchback Swift, taking it to the seventh position.

Going by the experts, the fall in the sales of the Swift can be due to the anticipating or waiting for the next generation launch, which is scheduled for the Auto Expo 2018. Apart from this, the Baleno and Dzire somehow have cannibalised their sales as both fall almost in the same bracket.

In this whole reshuffling, Hyundai Grand i10 emerged as the winner at the fourth slot with 14,417 units in the October 2017 sales. The South Korean carmaker sold 14,530 units in the same month last year.

On other hand, Hyundai Elite i20 slipped two positions down at the eight slots. The premium hatchback saw a decline of 17.8 per cent at 9,484 units in October 2017. The carmaker sold 11,532 units in the same month last year.
