TVS Motor to launch electric Jupiter by June 2018 | Gozto

Home-grown automaker TVS Motor Company is planning to come up with an electric scooter by June 2018. According to the industry sources, the two-wheelers company is working on the electric scooters, which it is planning to roll out in 2018.

The sources also confirmed that it would be the electric version of its best-selling model Jupiter.

It is expected that the scooter will come with a lithium-ion battery, which can go up to 50 km range.

With the government intend to push for the electric vehicles by 2030, many automakers have already started the work to bring their electric vehicles.

The country’s largest two-wheelers manufacturer has already shown its support by backing the electric two-wheeler startup company Ather with a funding of Rs 205 crore.

On the other hand, companies like Hero Electric and Ampere Vehicles are already selling their electric vehicles from the past 3-4 years.

US-based electric two-wheelers company GenZe, which is owned by Mahindra & Mahindra, will bring electric scooters in India by 2019.

Apart from these companies, Yamaha, Bajaj, and Electrochem have also planned their EV launches in 2018.

Till now, around 450,000 electric two-wheelers are sold in India in the past eight years.

According to the industry experts, it is expected that electric two-wheelers market size will expand to half a million units by 3-4 years.
